Present:  Chair Mary Jo MacGowan, Linda Clark, Sally Embley, Susan Roman, Betsy Janeway, Bob Quinn and guest Tom Clark.

Summary
1.     Appoint Secretary
The meeting was called to order at 6:05 pm. Bob Quinn was appointed acting secretary for this meeting.
  1. Minutes from December
Mary Jo MacGowan moved to approve the January minutes.  The Commission voted to approve the minutes with the slight correction of adding Nancy Van Loan as an attendee at January’s meeting.

 
3.     Correspondence
The Commission received a letter from NHDES re. Anne Henson of Concord Drive. (Shoreland Program Permit Application. DES File number 2013-00763). No action was required.

We received an invitation to consider joining a group called the NH Association of Natural Resource Scientists. No decision at this time.


4.     Winter Outing – February 9th

 

 
The snowshoe event at the MacGowan’s and the SPNHF Shea Reservation on Clough Sanborn Hill Rd was a great success. Twenty people joined in the fun with great weather and two Great Blue Heron nests located. Participants walked several informal trails.


5.     Warner River - New Hampshire Rivers Management and Protection Program (RMPP)

 
Mary Jo MacGowan asked for feedback on the idea of the Warner River being designated as part of the NH Rivers Management and Protection Program.  Susan moved to express the Commission’s support for the nomination of the Warner River to our Select Board, and to suggest that we provide a member to the advisory committee. Linda Clark seconded. We agreed to declare our support and to suggest George Embley as our representative, with Betsy Janeway as an alternate. Furthermore, we decided to ask to be put on the Agenda of the Select Board on March 3 to discuss Webster’s roll in this process. (Mary Jo will ask them). The reason we are supportive is that a part of the Warner River watershed is within Webster and this designation would enhance protection of the river and its tributaries in the larger/regional context.



6.     Bob Quinn photos
 

Still TBD but as part of a bigger wildlife celebration. Susan, Bob, and Mary Jo agreed to discuss the idea of a “Webster Wildlife Day” for this spring or summer. We will then present a proposal to the full Commission.


  1. Town clean-up April 26, 2014
Linda has been organizing people for this day and Sally suggested having plants from a State Nursery wildlife packet as a reward for the first 25 people who sign up to help. Mary Jo moved to allocate $20. All agreed.

  1. New Business
Betsy mentioned that she is talking to Barbara Corliss about protecting 90 acres of land. More discussions will follow and Susan wants to be involved and might talk to Five Rivers about potential interest.
